About

The African Community Exchange-Tanzania (ACE-TZ) is a unique volunteer organization, in that, it was established in 2009 by public minded Tanzanians. We are a registered non-profit community organization with the Tanzanian Ministry of Home Affairs (S.A. 17286) and have not-for-profit 501c3 status in the U.S. The majority of international volunteer organizations are formed by Americans or Europeans in the U.S. or Europe. ACE's uniqueness comes from the fact that our organization was founded and is run by those who live and work in the local communities, providing us with a unique lens with which to view international volunteerism.

Who else can better understand the needs of the community than those who have grown up here? We are committed to making Tanzania a better place. When we are not working, we too are volunteering at our partner community placements. Our mission is not to simply bring foreign volunteers to Tanzania, but to serve in our community as well.

ACE-TZ is based in Himo Town about 30 minutes outside of the bustling city of Moshi in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania. We operate using a home-base residence, meaning that volunteers live at a central home-base together with our staff. The home-base is where you live, take your meals and participate in cultural perspectives activities (such as Swahili lessons, guest speakers, and cultural excursions). At the home-base, you and your fellow volunteers will have the security you need to be able to be your best self when you are volunteering in the community.
